Community Visioning and Strategic Planning

Speaker: Erik Jensen

This virtual training will happen on June 16 from 1- 4 pm & June 17 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon.

A community vision and an organizational strategic plan can provide a framework for local governments to make decisions and achieve long-term objectives, particularly when facing budget constraints and conflicting community needs. These plans can help bring consensus and understanding around policy direction and priorities. This training will be taught over two days for three hours each day.

This workshop will cover:

  • Purpose, functions, and benefits of community vision and strategic plans;
  • How community vision and strategic plans differ and how they are connected;
  • Structuring a development process for each plan
  • Who to involve in each plan's development;
  • Linking each plan to the budget process and other long-term plans; and
  • How to ensure implementation and avoid the plan sitting on a shelf
