FEMA Changes Policy on PPE Reimbursement

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued guidance which narrows the eligibility for personal protective equipment (PPE) reimbursement through the agency’s public assistance grant.  Effective September 15, reimbursement for PPE - defined as medical grade masks, respirators, sterile gowns, and gloves - will be only for purchases resulting from an outbreak or specific COVID-19 event.  Reimbursement will also continue for PPE purchased to protect first responders who are providing aid in high-risk environments.  However, purchases for face coverings and PPE needed for normal operation of municipal functions will no longer be reimbursed by FEMA, although funding may be eligible through other agencies.  Please note that September 15 is not an application deadline; the policy in effect at the time of procurement of products or services will be used to determine reimbursement eligibility, not the date of the application.
