Public Agencies Targeted by Scammers During Pandemic

As they work to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, public agencies are being targeted as part of scams that include misinformation about Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) grants.  According to FEMA Region 10, which includes Oregon, emails from would-be contractors and consultants have gone so far as to indicate that FEMA has assigned them to a target city or county in a bid to secure consulting work for the submission of FEMA grants.  FEMA will never endorse or assign a vendor to a city.  If a city has questions about FEMA PA, they should contact their county emergency operations center, FEMA or the LOC for assistance and then register for the free online training offered by FEMA.
