Join a small, collaborative Finance team that prides itself on being flexible, supportive, and solutions oriented. The Finance Department plays a critical behind-the-scenes role in enabling all City departments to serve the public efficiently and effectively. As our new Senior Accountant, you’ll provide the financial expertise and accountability that help keep the City’s programs running smoothly and responsibly. This position offers a unique opportunity to support high-impact work across departments and help ensure public funds are spent wisely and transparently.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for someone who enjoys doing meaningful, hands-on accounting work. The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional who thrives on digging into the details, solving complex problems, and seeing how their work fits into the big picture. In this role, you’ll be the go-to person for high-level accounting support and financial reporting. You won’t just be reviewing numbers—you’ll be interpreting them, explaining them, and using them to improve the City’s operations. You’ll work closely with the Assistant City Manager to shape priorities, recommend process improvements, and guide the financial direction of the organization.

AS SENIOR ACCOUNTANT, YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

Leading the City’s annual audit process, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of required documentation.
Performing advanced accounting work, including reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger review.
Developing financial reports and projections that help guide decision-making across departments.
Assisting with the preparation of the City’s budget and supporting departments with budget monitoring and reporting.
Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and applicable laws and regulations.
Reviewing and verifying accounting records related to accounts payable, payroll, utility billing, and more.
Coordinating capital project tracking, asset management, and grant reporting requirements.
Providing input and recommendations on financial policies, procedures, and efficiencies.
Supporting the Assistant City Manager with strategic initiatives and special projects.
Serving as a resource to team members in utility billing, A/P, payroll, and other key financial functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, or related field; and
