The City Manager of Sutherlin is hired by and serves the mayor and six-member city council. The City Manager assists the mayor and council in the development of city policies and carries out policies established by ordinances and resolutions approved by council. The City Manager is the chief executive officer of the city and supervises general affairs and all department heads and employees. By city charter, once appointed the City Manager is required and must maintain residency in the city limits unless expressly waived by the council.
The City of Sutherlin has 47 FTE’s and 7 full-service departments: Police, Fire, Public Works, Utilities Treatment, Community Development, Administration and Finance. Recreation opportunities are abundant in Douglas County, with excellent schools in Sutherlin making for a good work/life balance for families.
Applicants for this position should have a Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration or a related field and a minimum of 5 years’ progressively responsible experience in municipal government; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities.
