POSITION: Community Service Officer
Full Time: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Regular, Non-Exempt, Represented Position
SALARY: Step 1: $4799/month. 5% merit increase based on satisfactory performance every 12 months through Step 5 $5925. Cost of living increases:
3%-7/1/2023; 2%-1/1/2024. Minimum 3%, maximum 5%-7/1/24. Incentives available.
GENERAL STATEMENT
The Community Service Officer is a civilian position responsible for investigating, processing, resolving and enforcing violations of ordinances, rules, and regulations administered by the City of Gladstone; developing and presenting cases to the Municipal Court or assisting Legal Counsel with presenting code compliance cases at court; participating in the review and development of ordinances. The Community Service Officer also provides non-emergency services such as traffic control and limited animal control.
QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent, and post high school education in criminology, public administration, or a closely related field. Minimum of one (1) year experience in code compliance or comparable enforcement experience, and two (2) years’ experience working in a customer service environment.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which ensures the ability to perform the essential job duties and responsibility, may be considered.
Must successfully pass a conditional offer background investigation, which includes a criminal history check, a credit report and drug screen. Must be able to pass the department’s security clearance standards for unescorted access to certain City facilities.
Certification or the ability to obtain certification on the Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) within a period determined by the City,
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
The ability to work a flexible schedule to accomplish code compliance or to cover for the Property Evidence Technician.
Experience managing potentially stressful and/or confrontational interactions is desirable and bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
SELECTION PROCESS
1 Candidates are required to submit a resume, a City of Gladstone application and any required supplemental documents.
2 Qualified candidates will be invited to a Panel Interview.
3 The top candidate(s) will be invited for an Executive Interview.
4 A conditional job offer and a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) packet will be given to the top candidate. Upon return of the PHQ a background investigation will be conducted. If successful, the top candidate will be sent authorization materials required to conduct a credit check. If successful, an appointment will be made for a multi-panel drug screen.
5 After successfully completing all steps of this recruitment process, a formal final job offer will be presented to the top candidate.
The selection process will begin immediately upon receipt of required applicant materials so the earlier the City receives your materials the sooner you will be considered for employment.
