The City of Gresham is seeking qualified applicants for a rewarding opportunity as a Youth Violence Prevention Program Coordinator. This role will develop, implement, and manage this new program while interacting with a broad range of key stakeholders.
This position is a full-time, limited term position with a duration of two years with potential to be extended based on budget availability.
Work schedule will be Monday – Friday, some nights and weekends may be required.
Position Description
• Act as a representative on committees, interagency tasks forces, and special projects
• Develop/maintain partnerships with culturally-specific community-based organizations (CBOs) that provide outreach, prevention, and/or intervention services to Gresham youth/families
• Manage contracts with outside agencies who perform outreach, prevention, and/or intervention services for youth and families (includes issuing RFPs, monitoring performance, evaluating outcomes, collecting reports and data)
• Conduct grant writing/management; advocate for additional funding resources
• Coordinate/facilitate regular service coordination meetings with stakeholders to include police/school resource officers (SROs), city staff, outreach workers, CBOs, parole/probation, schools
• Coordinate/facilitate regular community engagement meetings with stakeholders to include residents, police, outreach workers, CBOs, apartment managers, etc.
• Monitor and analyze program effectiveness, attend late-night youth programs and community events, communicate with stakeholders to understand concerns and areas needing improvement, implement program changes as needed
• Facilitate effective coordination/collaboration/communication between stakeholders, especially between outreach workers and police – likely working closely with representatives of Gresham Police to help ensure outreach workers are being utilized effectively
• Participate in ride-alongs with police and outreach workers, be on-call to respond to crime scenes, coordinate with outreach workers when violence occurs
Qualities we are looking for:
• An ability to build relationships with internal (other City departments and staff) and external (youth organizations, school districts, etc.) stakeholders
• A highly organized approach to work with the ability to manage time and resources efficiently and effectively while prioritizing appropriately
• Outstanding collaboration skills to work alongside law enforcement to navigate sensitive situations involving youth
• Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent data collection and analysis skills with an aptitude to formulate into meaningful reports
• Initiative and self-motivation to work independently
• Someone who understands diverse individuals and works to deliver equitable and inclusive service
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree* in Psychology, Social Services, Education, or other related field
• Three (3) to six (6) years of demonstrated experience working with youth such as programming, activities, social service, education, youth development; community violence intervention; recreational programs; case management; social services outreach; or other related work.
*Additional experience may substitute for education to reach the equivalency of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience.
