Final Wildfire Hazard Map Meeting July 1

In response to SB 762 from the 2021 legislative session, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) worked with Oregon State University (OSU) to develop a map to display wildfire hazard conditions.

To get feedback and provide members of the public with information, the ODF has held a series of community forums across Oregon, and the final one is scheduled in The Dalles:

  • The Dalles—Monday, July 1 from 7-9 p.m., Oregon Military Department Armory, 402 E. Scenic Dr., The Dalles, OR 97058

This statewide map shows the hazard levels based on weather, climate, topography and vegetation. While wildfire risk can be mitigated through actions at the community and property level, wildfire hazard cannot.

The wildfire hazard map's purposes are to:

  • Educate Oregon residents and property owners about the hazard level where they live;
  • Assist in prioritizing fire adaptation and mitigation resources for the most vulnerable locations; and
  • Identify where defensible space standards and home hardening codes will apply.

The new map will be available on July 18 and will be displayed on an ODF/OSU website.
