The Position
Benton County seeks a future-oriented County Administrator to serve as a trusted advisor and organizational leader. The County Administrator is appointed by and reports to the Board of Commissioners (BOC) with responsibility for implementing BOC policy, directing County operations, overseeing the County’s biennial budget, and managing department directors and assigned staff.
The County Administrator oversees the County’s strategic planning activities and routinely evaluates and implements opportunities that align with BOC priorities. The Administrator establishes standards and develops performance measures designed to improve operations while ensuring County functions are carried out efficiently and effectively. The Administrator also researches, analyzes, and reports on state and federal legislative concepts. This position oversees the development and management of the County’s financial system including allocating resources and approving expenditures. The County Administrator further ensures the effective and proper use of budgeted funds.
The Administrator facilitates interdepartmental collaboration and promotes effective communication throughout the organization. This position develops and maintains positive relationships with other governmental organizations and community partners and effectively represents the County at all times.
Qualifications
At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in local government management, including at least five (5) years of administrative or leadership responsibility is required. Strong managerial experience coupled with the ability to work closely with the Board of Commissioners is essential. A sound financial background with a strong understanding of budgets and financial management is required. Prior experience driving change and transformation with direct responsibility for strategic planning is essential.
A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field with a master’s degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and education that enables success as the County Administrator will be considered.
Compensation and Benefits
The County Administrator contract is at the discretion of the Board of Commissioners with a hiring range of $137,307 – $241,661 and will depend on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
