Drone Bill Passed by Senate
Legislation allowing cities and other park owners to regulate or prohibit drone take-offs and landings passed the Senate this week. SB 812A, introduced at the request of the LOC, narrowly lifts a preemption on the local government regulation of drones to the extent allowed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA claims the authority to regulate aerial drones, but allows, albeit grudgingly, the ability of state and local governments to regulate take-offs and landings. The bill passed with 20 affirmative votes and now heads to the House for additional consideration.
