Republican Walkout 4.0

Senate Republicans were a no show for Thursday’s floor session. According to the Republican caucus, their intention was to  protest the COVID-19 vaccine roll out for seniors and the lack of in-class instruction available for students across Oregon.  This latest walkout was unlike the three previous in 2020 and 2019, when Republicans stepped away to protest legislation related to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and various other Democratic priorities.  Senate President Peter Courtney said he received no warning about the walkout from either the Republican caucus or Senator Brian Boquist, who recently switched his party registration to the Independent Party of Oregon.  At this stage of the session, both the Senate and House are scheduling floor sessions twice each week to advance legislation. This is the Democratic Caucus response to the walkout.
