The City of Turner is a vibrant and growing community located just south of Salem, Oregon, with a population of 2,944. Turner is a highly desired place to live. It has excellent schools and is very close-knit. It features the best of small town living, with a bigger city nearby.

The City’s long-time and highly respected Police Chief is retiring. The Police Department is very professional and supported by the community.

The City of Turner is seeking a leader with excellent skills and experience and a strong record of community engagement. The new Chief must be dedicated, approachable, collaborative and open-minded. The new Chief must have a strong administrative skill set and the ability to work with partnering agencies. The position performs all administrative functions for the department and is also part of the regular patrol schedule.

The requirements to apply for this position are as follows:

Education and Experience:
• An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Political Science, Criminal Justice or a closely related field and some law enforcement experience.
• AND at least five (5) years law enforcement supervisory experience.
• OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Special Requirements / Licenses:
• Possession/maintenance of a valid driver's license and maintenance of acceptable driving record (valid Oregon driver license required within 30 days of hire).
• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
• Must successfully complete required background investigation(s) other applicable testing/evaluations pertaining to the position.
• Must possess an Executive Certificate from the Oregon DPSST within 12 months of employment.
The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and regionally competitive. The current range for the position is $85,000 to $107,000 annually. The position has excellent benefits, which includes paid sick time and holidays, as well as high quality family medical, dental and vision benefits. This is an Oregon State Retirement System (PERS) qualified position.
