Cities – LOC Wants Your Input on Potential Changes to SB 1537

SB 1537 (2024) created a path for cities to pursue one-time urban growth boundary (UGB) expansions for up to 100 acres to build more housing outside of the normal complicated and costly UBG expansion process. Since passage of this measure, only three cities have been able to use this tool. The Legislature is considering a workgroup and possible changes to ease the path for cities to acquire more housing land.

Cities – the LOC needs your help to inform this work!  We’re looking for your email responses to the following questions:

  1. Are you interested in or in need of a UGB expansion to meet housing goals?
  2. Has your jurisdiction done the analysis to see if you meet the criteria? Does your jurisdiction meet the criteria?

a. If so, what barriers stand in the way of your jurisdiction using the one-time expansion?

b. If not, what criteria do you not meet?

Information cities provide will help influence the direction of legislative work. The LOC is hoping to move quickly to meet legislative deadlines, so please send responses by October 31 at 5 p.m.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
