Cities Urged to Testify on Enterprise Zone Bill Next Wednesday

The House Revenue Committee will hear a bill to extend the statewide enterprise zone program on Wednesday, April 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Enterprise zones are a local discretionary economic development tool that allow companies to have a short-term property tax abatement in exchange for job growth requirements and any further locally set requirements. Since there is local control over the agreements between cities and the companies, testifying cities should provide specific details about the community benefits from enterprise zone agreements and where you have been able to successfully negotiate.

HB 2199 already had a very successful hearing in the House Economic Development and Small Business Committee. Thank you to all the cities that have submitted testimony for enterprise zone and economic development hearings so far this legislative session. Since the House Revenue Committee has not heard the bill yet, we want to continue a very strong showing for this program.
