Critical Next Step to Receive Recycling Modernization Act (RMA) Funding
Circular Action Alliance (CAA), the prospective producer responsibility organization (PRO) in Oregon, is working with Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), a third-party contractor, to complete the Oregon Recycling System Optimization Project (ORSOP), an essential next step to successfully implementing the Recycling Modernization Act (RMA). The ORSOP is Phase II of the Local Government Needs Assessment Survey submitted by cities in April 2023.
Gathering information for the ORSOP is critical to ensuring that cities receive funding for the service expansion needs identified in the April 2023 survey. Time is of the essence; there is no prioritization list for when RRS will contact local governments, and their work on the ORSOP needs to be completed by July 1, 2024. RRS has begun reaching out to local governments, so now is the time to gather the information to prepare for the upcoming conversations.
Here’s what cities can do to ensure they are prepared:
- Review the local government resources available from CAA; and
- Reach out to local service providers for their assistance in gathering the information needed for the ORSOP.
