Drug Take-Back Bill Moves Out of Ways and Means
Legislation establishing a statewide drug take-back program passed out of the Ways and Means full committee this week and now goes to the floors of both chambers. HB 3273, sponsored by Representative Sheri Schouten (D-Beaverton), requires drug manufacturers to fund a program allowing consumers to dispose of unneeded medications in a secure manner in order to prevent them from being misused or placed in the waste stream.
The bill also prevents any additional local programs from being established. Should HB 3273 fail, cities and counties may wish to consider local ordinances to address this pressing public safety and environmental concern. HB 3273 will go the House first and then the Senate.
