Face Coverings Required in Select Counties

Effective June 24, face masks or face coverings will be required in indoor spaces in select counties by order of Governor Brown.  The Oregon Health Authority has also released guidance for masks, face shield and face coverings in response to the governor's order. The regulation is intended to curb a recent rise in COVID-19 cases throughout Oregon.  The order applies to Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Marion, Polk and Hood River counties, and will require masks to be worn inside buildings such as grocery stores and office environments.  Also included was Lincoln County where commissioners issued their own mask requirement prior to the governor’s announcement.  Not included was Union County which has the highest per capita COVID-19 positive rate.  Numerous scientific studies have supported face coverings as a means of limiting the transmission of the COVID-19.  ORS 433.441 gives the governor broad authority to take actions to protect public health during a declared public health emergency.
