General Government Bills Meet Their Fate at Deadline

With the closure of legislative policy committees this week, several bills important to the LOC either moved on or are no longer under active consideration as the final gavel nears. Bills of particular interest to the LOC’s General Government portfolio include:

  • SB 179A: This bill will restore the immunity from injury claims enjoyed by landowners who allow free recreation on their property.  The bill has passed both chambers and is on its way to Governor Kotek’s desk.
  • SB 238A: This bill will allow greater use of drones by public safety agencies.  It was referred to the House Rules Committee for further consideration.
  • SB 473A: This legislation is intended to create additional criminal sanctions for threatening a public official. The bill was amended in the House Judiciary Committee and is expected to go to a conference committee to resolve differences between the two chambers.
  • SB 847A: This legislation would have required employers to increase their existing subsidy of retiree health insurance plans offered through the Public Employee Retirement System. The bill received a work session and will not proceed this session.
  • SB 916B: This legislation allows striking workers to collect unemployment insurance and is opposed by the LOC. The bill was moved out of the House Labor and Workplace Standards Committee this week and is headed to the floor. A compromise amendment was proposed in committee, but was rejected. The LOC remains in active opposition to the bill.
