Grant Funding Available for Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

In order fund electric vehicle infrastructure, Portland General Electric and Pacific Power have been partners with the Clean Fuels Program (CFP) at the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The CFP provides the utilities with carbon credits based on the number of customers who use electric vehicles (EV) and charge them at home.  The credits continue to grow as EV’s gain more ground on the roadways. Past projects funded by the program include: the One Stop gas station in the city of Athena; EV funds for charging stations at Klamath Community College; and funds for the NAACP for an electric shuttle bus and charging station.

The grant applications for the  DEQ’s 2022 cycle are due by July 1.  There will also be a  round in 2023, with the application process starting next  May.  Grant levels can be as high as 100% of the project, but cannot exceed $750,000. PGE will be awarding $2.25 million in grants, and Pacific Power will have $1.3 million available. The grants are specific to each utility’s service territory, so that sets the  starting point to learn more about the program and what projects are eligible.
