LOC Board Votes on LGPI, PERS Side Account
On April 1, the LOC Board of Directors held a special meeting to address four agenda items. First, the board directed LOC Executive Director Mike Cully to continue his work in actively transitioning the provision of services for the Local Government Personnel Institute (LGPI) to Lane Council of Governments. More details on this transition are provided in a separate announcement regarding LGPI.
Second, while the LOC Board had originally set aside $500,000 to be placed into a side account for the Public Employees Retirement System, given the current financial unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the board has decided to retain those funds to ensure financial liquidity and security.
Third, the board adopted a temporary emergency leave policy for LOC employees, effective immediately and expiring on December 31, specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This policy provides LOC employees with certain job-related protections and paid leave if they acquire COVID-19 themselves, have to care for a person who is suffering from COVID-19, or are experiencing a loss of childcare due to the closure of schools or daycare facilities.
Finally, the board decided that its June 12 meeting, originally scheduled to be held in the city of John Day, is being relocated to the Salem metro area.
