MRC Invites Local Governments to Respond to Illegal Mattress Dumping Census and Learn About Funding Opportunities
The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is seeking the cooperation of local governments to help communities across Oregon address illegal mattress dumping. MRC is currently collecting 2025 data through its Illegal Mattress Dumping Census and is also launching an initiative that will provide financial compensation to local government agencies and solid waste facilities for reporting illegally dumped mattresses.
Illegal Mattress Dumping Census:
MRC has selected Merina+Co to administer the census and analyze responses. Cities are encouraged to submit one collective response by September 30, 2026.
The census is intended to collect information and local feedback about illegal mattress dumping in Oregon. The information will help inform pilot projects aimed at reducing illegal dumping and track progress over time.
Learn more and complete the census.
Illegally Dumped Mattress Collection Initiative
MRC's Illegally Dumped Mattress Collection Initiative (IDMCI) will offer local government agencies and solid waste facilities an opportunity to receive financial compensation by reporting illegally dumped mattresses collected from the public right-of-way. Reporting is available through the Rubbish web portal.
MRC will host a 30-minute informational webinar on Tuesday, September 29, at 10 a.m. to provide more information about the IDMCI and how communities can participate.
