Celebrating the People Behind Our Infrastructure: Support HB 3634 During National Public Works Week
As we observe National Public Works Week (May 18-24), we’re celebrating the theme “People, Purpose, Presence,” a reminder that infrastructure is more than pipes and pavement. It’s the people who keep our systems running every day.
Oregon is facing a shortage of qualified drinking water and wastewater operators. As retirements increase, cities across the state are struggling to fill critical roles that protect public health, support housing, and maintain core services.
House Bill 3634 is a solution and a top LOC priority bill that would fund operator-in-training programs. This bill aligns with the Ways and Means Committee’s budget framework by protecting public health and safety and investing strategically in Oregon’s future.
