Public Transport Receives Substantial Funding Boost

Additional transit investment funds have recently come available from both state and federal agencies.  Newly awarded grant funds from the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Public Transportation Division are providing funding for facility upgrades, bus replacement, shelter improvements and enhancement of mobility for seniors and people with disabilities.

At the federal level, more than $23 million has been awarded from Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) programs for the 2020-2022 discretionary Surface Transportation Program grants. In addition, more than $16 million has been awarded from the CARES Act. Here’s an overview:

The needs-based CARES Act awards will continue to be granted throughout 2020 as applications are received, reviewed and approved by ODOT’s Public Transportation Division. For more information, see the division’s funding opportunities.
