An Update on COVID-19 Community Resources

To help city leaders stay informed of the latest efforts to keep the public safe and healthy, the LOC will continue to report on issues related to the COVID-19 crisis, including available resources and how cities can address public safety concerns.

The following is an overview of new information received by LOC staff:

  • Food Security: The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced this week initiatives to ensure that children who are out of school continue to be fed, including programs specific to rural Oregon.  More information
  • Small Business Assistance:  Small businesses in Oregon will be eligible for low interest financing in the form of economic injury disaster loans.
  • Non-Compliant Businesses:  If a city leader is aware of a restaurant or bar that is operating in defiance of social distancing requirements, please let the Oregon Liquor Control Commission know.  While criminal enforcement is an option, directing a business to the financial assistance mentioned above and working towards voluntary compliance is advisable.
  • Price Gouging:  Oregon law protects consumers and public health, but also prohibits price gouging during times of disaster.  If a city leader becomes aware of essential products being sold at excessive prices, please contact the Oregon Department of Justice or your local district attorney.
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA):  FEMA may provide assistance with COVID-19 response for efforts outside the jurisdiction of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Center for Disease Control.  More information

LOC staff are participating in numerous conversations at the state and federal levels and will report on any news or resources as they become available.
