Website Accessibility Deadline Extended by One Year

The U.S. Department of Justice just released interim rulemaking extending compliance deadlines related to the Web Content Accessible Guidelines (WCAG).

Prior to this rulemaking, public entities serving populations of 50,000 people or more had until April 24, 2026 to ensure their digital content met new accessibility standards. For entities serving populations less than 50,000 people, the deadline had been April 26, 2027.

Deadlines for compliance have been extended to April 26, 2027 for populations of 50,000 or more and April 26, 2028 for populations less than 50,000.

The National League of Cities has compiled additional information and a list of resources on the WCAG requirements available on their website.
