LOC Seeks Work Sessions on Cybersecurity Bills Related to Public Records and Executive Sessions
HB 2490 had its first hearing this week in the House Emergency Management, General Government, and Veterans Committee. The LOC is asking the committee to hold a work session and move this bill to the House floor.
HB 2490 exempts from disclosure certain documents by public agencies related to cybersecurity. These would include contractual records, insurance records, documents, and correspondence that set forth cybersecurity specifications, insurance applications, contracts, plans, and coverage details.
The LOC is also asking the House Emergency Management, General Government and Veterans Committee to advance HB 2806 to the House Floor. This committee held its first hearing on this bill February 14.
HB 2806 with the -2 amendment allows governing bodies to meet in executive sessions to discuss cybersecurity infrastructure and cyber threats. Additionally, it extends executive sessions to consider matters relating to the safety of a governing body, staff and volunteers, and to the security of public body’s facilities and meeting spaces.
