Business Oregon Announces Major Investment in Broadband Infrastructure
Business Oregon recently announced the end of the application process that will award $689 million in Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment, or BEAD, program funds, for projects across Oregon. BEAD is funded through the 2023 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed by the U.S. Congress.
The 554 grant applications received by Business Oregon and the Oregon Broadband Office cover more than 105,000 locations. More plainly stated, this historic investment gets the state up to 100% coverage. Business Oregon said in a press release, “This investment will not only bridge the digital divide but also create new opportunities in education, healthcare, agriculture, business, and daily life.”
Business Oregon will submit the list of preliminary awardees to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for final approval and make a formal award announcement statewide when that process is complete.
