ODOT Jurisdictional Transfer Committee Provides Assistance to Cities
Is there a state-owned road in your community that you think would better serve people if it were managed by a different jurisdiction?
Transferring part of a state road from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to a local jurisdiction is easier than you think, thanks to a new committee formed by the state Legislature in 2023.
The Jurisdictional Transfer Advisory Committee provides road transfer and funding recommendations to the Legislature. Their recommendations include funding requests to support the transfers and potential improvements to the road segment.
The committee recommends three transfers to the Legislature per biennium. Funding isn’t guaranteed, but the committee offers a streamlined path for jurisdictional transfers in more communities throughout the state.
If you’re interested in starting the jurisdictional transfer process, talk to the ODOT district or region staff in your area. ODOT and local governments can jointly apply to the committee for consideration.
