Washington County is now hiring an Assistant Director of Land Use & Transportation!
As one of the largest departments in Washington County, the Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) is a diverse, knowledgeable, highly trained, and motivated group of more than 300 professionals, with an annual budget of roughly $420 million. As public servants, we work diligently towards the goals and visions of the community, the county, our department, and its five divisions: Planning and Development Services; Capital Project Services; Engineering, Traffic, and Survey; Operations and Maintenance; and Administrative Services.

The Position
The Assistant Director supports the Director of Land Use & Transportation by providing strategic leadership and direction to the department’s business practices and performance, organizational health and equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts. Areas of responsibility will include:
Leading the creation and implementation of the department’s updated strategic plan;
Supporting the County Administrative Office in the creation of the updated countywide strategic plan;
Working with leadership and staff to determine department and division priorities and goals;
Establishing and monitoring key performance indicators and measures;
Leading a review and update of key business processes and workflows to improve efficiency and effectiveness;
Providing strategic oversight of organizational health, employee engagement, and equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

You can effectively coordinate with all levels of staff from division managers to field crews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in civil engineering, architecture, urban and regional planning, economics, transportation, public administration, business administration or a closely related field; AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: a large complex transportation, land use, public works program, or experience providing administration, development, implementation, and evaluation of department services. Five (5) years of the required experience must be in a supervisory, management, or leadership capacity. OR
Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, architecture, urban and regional planning, economics, transportation, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; AND at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: a large complex transportation, land use, public works program, or experience providing administration, development, implementation, and evaluation of department services. Five (5) years of the required experience must be in a supervisory, management, or leadership capacity. OR
Associates Degree in civil engineering, architecture, urban and regional planning, economics, transportation, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; AND at least twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: a large complex transportation, land use, public works program, or experience providing administration, development, implementation, and evaluation of department services. Five (5) years of the required experience must be in a supervisory, management, or leadership capacity.
