Legislators Gather in Salem in Advance of Short Session

This week marked key milestones for the LOC lobby team.

First, the Oregon Legislature hosted legislative days, where committees meet to review bills and discuss issues. These are critical conversations as the LOC prepares for the 35-day 2026 Legislative Session beginning February 2. The LOC’s advocacy staff made progress this week gathering support for key 2026 initiatives, including creating flexibility for the use of transient lodging taxes (known as the LOCAL Act), addressing governance needs (click here for more details), expanding urban growth boundaries, and more.

LOC members can learn about these bills and other legislation impacting cities during our weekly legislative updates, beginning Friday, February 6 via Zoom.

This week also marked the last time Jenna Jones represented the LOC in the Capitol. Jenna has accepted a role outside of the organization and her last day was January 15. In her second tenure with the LOC, Jenna supported cities on issues related to tax, finance, and economic development. She laid important groundwork for the LOCAL Act ahead of this legislative session. We wish Jenna the best in her next endeavor!
