2020 Presidential Candidates Tout Their Plans for Infrastructure Investment
The first infrastructure forum for 2020 presidential candidates was held February 21 in Las Vegas. The forum was hosted by the National League of Cities and their partner United for Infrastructure. Candidates Joe Biden, Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg and Tom Steyer attended the event and provided perspectives on infrastructure investments. Each candidate shared their focus, and all candidates supported efforts to make a major comprehensive investment in infrastructure across the country. Currently, House Leadership and Oregon Representative Peter Defazio continue their work advocating for the Moving Forward Framework, which lays out a $760 billion comprehensive investment package over five years. In addition, the proposed 2021 Presidential Budget includes an infrastructure investment of $1 trillion, which includes $810 million in surface transportation funding, $190 billion in various other grant programs. To date, neither proposed infrastructure plan has come up with a revenue source to pay for the investments.
