City Officials from Across Oregon Converge in D.C.

IMG_1762 web.jpgThis week, more than 60 LOC members from 22 cities and more than 50 youth delegates representing eight cities traveled to Washington, D.C. for the National League of Cities (NLC) Congressional City Conference.

During this year's event, the LOC’s federal focus was on four issues, including:  Closing the Digital Divide; Infrastructure; Municipal Bonds and SALT; and the FEMA BiOp.  The League also included federal priorities developed by the NLC and which largely overlap with the LOC’s federal advocacy.   LOC members and youth delegates had opportunities to engage with all members of Oregon’s congressional delegation, including Oregon’s newest members, Congresswomen Janelle Bynum and Maxine Dexter.

In addition, LOC Executive Director Patty Mulvihill and Legislative Director Jim McCauley met with White House government relations staff to discuss our concerns with the pre-implementation of the FEMA BiOp. The Trump Administration has increased its footprint nationally with regional government affairs staff, and we’ll be following up with them soon.

This year, the NLC had exceptional participation from youth delegates and city officials. On Hill Day, 1,000 attendees were physically on Capitol Hill advocating for city priorities.
