May 21 Election Preliminary Results
Oregon’s May 21 primary election season brought 83 local elections, including levies, bonds, and advisory questions covering 27 of 36 counties. Voter turnout for May elections continues to be poor, with just 29.35% of the state’s three million voters submitting ballots. However, 2024 is tracking above the May 2023 elections, which saw just a 27% turnout. Once again, many of Oregon’s more rural counties have voter turnout exceeding 50%, while some of the more populous counties, such as Clackamas and Marion, register among the least voter participation.
Among all local governments, including special districts, this year’s election cycle continues to see a mix of voter support for revenue increases with a 60% pass rate for all revenue measures (levy-bond-tax). For cities, only six of 24 local measures failed this cycle. The city of Gresham was among the success stories, seeing a public safety measure pass for the first time in 38 years.
