PUC Seeks City Engagement in Wildfire Mitigation Plan Requirements

In August, the Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) announced the initiation of an informal rulemaking process to address electric utility risk-based wildfire protection plans, including Public Safety Power Shut-offs. These plans will apply to investor-owned utilities, including Portland General Electric and Pacific Power, but can have significant impacts on local emergency management operations. The PUC will be hosting a workshop on December 10, where stakeholders, including cities, can learn more and provide input. Cities interested in this process should send an email to puc.hearings@state.or.us and request to be added to the service list for Docket No. AR 638. Cities making this request will receive specific information on this process, including details on the December 10 workshop and future workshop opportunities.
