Rep. Defazio Introduces Surface Transportation Bill
On Wednesday, Congressman Peter Defazio of Oregon introduced a bill investing in a “New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America” (INVEST). The package will provide $494 billion over five years with transformative investment in surface and rail infrastructure. This funding level includes an $83.1 billion COVID-19 response in fiscal year 2021 for states, cities, territories, and transit agencies to allow projects to advance and preserve jobs in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Formula grants will also be available for Fix it First, Bridge Investment, Climate, Resilience, and CMAQ. Based on the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) formula, Oregon would see $863 million over five years for transit projects, and an additional $3.6 billion for all funding streams covered under the INVEST bill.
